Please tell me you are smiling right now because I refuse to believe that anyone can look at this baby and not at least twitch the corners of their mouths! Look at this much adroableness! How can you handle it!? Awww … Now go down to the street and give some strangers a smile like this! You hae no idea the effect you can have on that person’s day! 😉

Youtuber and entrepreneur Hank Green’s “Laugh Without Smiling” video has always been one of my favourite videos from him – it’s simple, straightforward: asking his friends and fellow Youtubers to laugh without smiling. You can say that this is a sort of social experiement or funny video, and it is actually really hard! In the end, litereally everyone ends up laughing for real and it’s the most delightful video I’ve seen for a long time. I’m 100% sure that people watching the video cannot help but smile through the whole video too. It is this powerful.

Forbes has stated that smiling is evolutionarily contagious and we have a subconscious innate drive to smile when we see one. This occurs even among strangers when we have no intention to connect or affiliate with the other person.

So, now let’s check out these 3 powers amongst many that a smile can bring for you!

1) More Attractive!

When you smile, you look good and feel good. Want to be more attractive? Simple. Smile! Research has proven that we find others more attractive when they are wearing a smile. You just cannot take your eyes away from a person when they are wearing a blooming and the sweetest smile ever. I’m sure you would have easily found a smiling person being much more attractive, just like people who are more attracted to people with a great sense of humor, because they can make themselves and the people around them smile and laugh til they develop abs! What’s more is that this may make you feel a happy tingle inside yourself!

2) A Smile is Contagious!

When others see you smile, they smile too. And when they smile, they look good and feel good, too. Hank’s “Laugh without Smiling” video that I mentioned above is a great example – People just cannot watch this without grinning like a goofball! (The good kind of goofball, of course! <3) Or, perhaps you are already smiling from looking at that adorable baby in the post! How did this make you feel? When the person you are talking to or the people that surround you are smiling, you won’t be able to help but smile!

Avril Lavigne, the Canadian Rock Star, literally has a wonderful song called “Smile”; 2Pac, a rap legend that passed away had mentioned the benefits of smiling in his lyrics to ‘Power of a Smile’. He raps:
The power of a gun can kill, and the power of fire can burn
The power of wind can chill, and the power of mind can learn
The power of anger, can raise inside until it tears you apart
But the power of a smile, especially yours, can heal a frozen heart

A smile is a contagious thing. Give to the world and the world will give back to you. Smile at the world and the world will smile back at you. You will brighten the days of those around and make a difference in their lives … simply by smiling!

3) Smiling is so Good and Healthy!

Smile can add 7 years to your life! It is a fact! Smile can aslo boost HGH production and reduces cancer risk. You also use fewer muscles to smile than you do for frowning. Therefore, stretch your muscles and skin the right way throughout life to keep looking young! When you’re smiling, no doubt you’re having a much better time than when you’re not! Smiling simply makes you feel better! Even the thought of smiling or the pretence of smiling can trigger your brain to release more endorphins which accounts for your smile and happiness!

When you smile, your brain is aware of the activity and actually keeps track of it. The more you smile, the more effective you are at breaking the brain’s natural tendency to think negatively. If you smile often enough, you end up rewiring your brain to make positive patterns more often than it does negative ones.

Research has also shown that smiling releases serotonin – a neurotransmitter that produces feelings of happiness and wellbeing. It’s like a circle of happiness. Smile and you feel happy, you feel happy and you smile! Even when you’re not feeling great, try smiling, genuinely, and see how you feel! A smile has special powers. You can calm fear, insecurity, hurt and anxiety not only in yourself, but in those that are experiencing those feelings. The next time someone is feeling sad, scared, nervous, whatever it may be, smile with them and see how this makes them feel!

“Everytime you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing.”

– Mother Teresa
